Gorilla Trekking

Gorilla trekking is done deep in the heart of Uganda's Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. Gorilla trekking is an experience for a lifetime. Bwindi Impenetrable is a lush wilderness, known for accommodating the world's largest community of gorillas. Uganda shelters more than half of these magical creatures on the planet.

Gorilla-Habituated Gorilla Groups

Habituated gorilla families are those that are conserved by scientists and environmentalists for research purposes, gradually getting used to the human presence. The gorilla habituation process may last from 2-3 years, which helps in reducing the risk of attack encounters during the gorilla trekking trek.

Gorilla trekking starts at about 7 or 7:30 in the morning, when tourist arrivals at the park headquarters occur. Visitors are distributed into groups of eight, each led by knowledgeable park guides, porters, and armed park rangers from the Ugandan Wildlife Authority.

Batwa Community Experience

The Batwa community experience activity introduces travelers to the Batwa tribe, one of Uganda's indigenous pygmy’ communities. The Batwa's ancestral roots began deeply in the forests of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest and Mgahinga, where they were thriving through hunting wild animals and fruit gathering. The Batwa lived in harmony with gorillas in the natural world.

Bird Watching

Beyond the gorilla trekking experiences, Bwindi National Park gives an equally thrilling chance for bird watching. Bwindi Impenetrable Forest offers more than 360 bird species, of which 23 bird species are endemic to the Albertine Rift. Bwindi Impenetrable National Park bird species include the Western Green Tinkerbird, cinnamon-chested Bee-eater, Emerald Cuckoo, Rwenzori Turaco, African Wood Owl, Archer’s Robin-Chat, Red-throated Alethe, Shelley’s Crimsonwing, Fine-banded Woodpecker, Grauer’s Rush Warbler, and many others.

Nature walks

To be part of the nature walk adventure, it costs $80 per tourist, and it's open to people who are 10 years and older. Nature walks give tourists a chance to get up close to the natural beauty of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and experience nature at its best.

Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is best visited in the dry season for gorilla trekking, which takes place from June to September and from December to February. This is when forest trekking trails are dry and less slippery. Also, it offers a chance for mountain gorilla viewing.
